Application process begins in the fall of the school year.

Application and entrance requirements:

• Complete Academy Application forms and requested materials.
  
  
• Written Submission
  Select a current event or happening. Answer the question, "What was the role of the media in reporting the story and/or in influencing public opinion?"
  • This is to be one page/one side and handwritten.
  • The event must be specified.
    
    
• Media Submission 
  • Create an original piece that will communicate a strong message.
  • Choose one of the South Elgin High School traits as a topic.
    Storm Traits:
    • Safety
    • Thoughtful and Considerate
    • Organized
    • Ready to Learn
    • Make Good Choice
  • The original piece can be in the form of one of the following:
    • Electronic media/computer generated - web design, photo story format, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Print media -  3 fold flyer, poster, banner, window display
    • Audio recording - digital tape recording CD/CDR, etc. *
    • Video recording - digital DVD recording, web cast, etc. *
      * All recordings must be limited to 1 minute
      
• Interview
  
• Three recommendations from two teachers and another adult (not a family member)
