Criteria for Gifted & Talented Academy

Students submit—

• A one-to-two-page essay, composed by the student, handwritten, explaining why he or she wants to attend the academy

• Two teacher recommendations on official forms
   – one from a 7th grade math and science teacher
   – one from a 7th grade English or social studies teacher

• Three samples of written work
   – two from English
   – one from social studies

• One recent math assignment

• One recent science assignment

• Application form completed and signed (link to the application form)


Applicants are evaluated from the following data—

• Standardized test scores (ITBS and COGAT)

• Writing samples

• Portfolio of student work

• Teacher recommendations

• Critical thinking test and impromptu essay
