Content: Students will be introduced to our economic system, business in our economy, and the role of labor and government in our economy. Students will be given new and updated information on special events in business and successful business people.
Activities: Student activities include: writing, applying, computing, investigating, interviewing,
problem solving, demonstrating, and reporting on business events and people.

CONTENT & ACTIVITIES +
Content: Students will be introduced to the dynamic, ever-changing world of financial institutions,
the prudent use of credit, and the saving and investing of money. Students
are introduced to the need to recognize financial risks and how to protect
against financial losses through insurance. The impact of technology on our society
through the use of the computer is also covered. This all leads to budgeting
and planning for a sound financial future.
Activities: Class lecture, discussion, and simulation projects will involve students in writing, applying, computing, investigating, interviewing, problem solving, demonstrating,
and reporting of the assigned topics.

CONTENT & ACTIVITIES +
Content: Accounting 1-2 is designed for the beginning student in this field. Through handson applications and the integration of computer technology, the student will learn
the basic fundamentals of double-entry accounting. Students will develop a solid
foundation for personal use for individuals and small business record keeping, for
entry-level accounting positions and for further accounting study.
Activities: Students will develop knowledge through textbook readings, classroom demonstrations, discussions and the use of interactive CDs.
Practical experience is provided in recording and analyzing financial information
through the completion of automated accounting projects and simulations and
through the use of Internet activities.

CONTENT & ACTIVITIES +
Content: Accounting 3-4 is designed for the advanced student in Accounting. Through
hands on applications and the integration of computers the student will learn the
advanced fundamentals of Accounting. Students will continue the development of
Accounting skills for advanced study and vocational training.
Activities: Students will develop knowledge through textbook study, lectures, classroom
demonstrations, guest speakers, field trips and internet activities.
Students apply their knowledge by completing assignments individually and in
groups on the microcomputer and in the workbook.
Practical experience through simulations and projects will help the students set
up an accounting system and organize records. Students may use Excel, Lotus
1-2-3, Peachtree and other Automated Accounting software to complete work.

CONTENT & ACTIVITIES +
Content: Students will learn basic financial management skills needed to manage personal finances. General clerical skills needed for small business or office. First semester will emphasize personal records while second semester will emphasize business related records. Basic math instruction and application is provided for each
chapter.
Activities: Students develop an understanding of simple business forms. Students work in a workbook to help develop penmanship, use of numbers by using a pocket calculator.
Students learn: to use a checkbook; to balance a bank statement; personal
budgeting; to prepare sales slips to take business inventories; process payroll
and some basic double entry skills the last nine weeks.
This course is offered in the ELL Program in Spanish and Sheltered English instruction, depending on the student’s English level proficiency. (BUSB02000, BUES02000)

Content: The most current windows technology and computer software training system will be used to develop the skill of touch-typing. Correct techniques will be emphasized.
Activities: Students will prepare a variety of letters, tables, and reports for personal and business applications. Keyboarding practice will include thematic units emphasizing multicultural projects and topics from the arts and literature. This course is offered in the ELL Program in Spanish and Sheltered English instruction, depending on the student’s English level proficiency.

Content: A one-semester introductory course designed to introduce students to computer terminology, software applications including Internet and web page development, and the interrelationship of hardware and multimedia.
Activities: Students will gain exposure to file management techniques to utilize their organizational skills, Internet researching and browsing using multiple search engines
and Boolean parameters, and web page development that will lead to the creation of web pages.

CONTENT & ACTIVITIES +
Content: This course is a one semester advanced course that further develops the general Web based design functions learned in Internet Concepts & Web Page Development course. Students will utilize audio, images, animation, graphic and video capturing software.
Activities: Student activities include hands-on training in page creation, site architecture,
and file transfer techniques as discussed in Internet Concepts & Web Page Development. Visual design architecture and file transfer techniques as well as visual design principles, graphic production skills, and site automation strategies will
also be further developed in this course. Studies include working with HTML,
Cascading Style Sheets, FTP, and several Web authoring software packages including
Microsoft Front Page, Dreamweaver, JavaScript, and other Macromedia
products.

Content: A one-semester introductory course designed to help students master and apply the fundamentals of Microsoft Office 2003. Students will learn to use Word, Excel,
Access, Power Point, and Outlook. In addition to learning each program, students
will learn to integrate documents. This popular software is used in many
universities and businesses today.
Activities: A variety of projects will be used to simulate business situations as well as provide information for personal use. Students will learn to create documents, workbooks, databases, and presentations. This course will allow students to begin the
entry-level instruction for MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) certification.

of Applications. This software is used at most universities and in businesses
today.
Activities: A variety of projects will be used to simulate business situations as well as provide information for personal use. Students will continue at an advanced level to
create documents, workbooks, databases, presentations, and integration of all
applications. This course will allow students advanced instruction for MOUS (Microsoft
Office User Specialist) certification.

CONTENT & ACTIVITIES +
Content: This course is a skill-level course that includes the concepts and terminology related to the people, equipment, and procedures of document production and publishing as well as skill development in the use of technology processing equipment.
Students will create and update documents using word processing,
spreadsheet, presentation, database, and desktop publishing applications. Students
will also apply and enhance previously learned technology skills to all projects
and assignments. Students will apply previously learned skills including, but
not limited to proofreading, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and math applications.
Activities: Students will use a variety of formats to prepare documents for personal and professional applications. In addition, students will enhance Internet searching skills
and prepare documents for publishing and presentation. Furthermore, students
will become more adept at integrating graphics into a multitude of documents.
Additionally, students will use their skills to complete tasks using technology
simulations that incorporate a variety of career areas.

Activities: DECA is an Association of marketing students. DECA activities further student
development in one or more of the following areas: leadership development, social
intelligence, vocational understanding, and civic consciousness. Through the
integration of individual and group DECA activities with the marketing instructional
program, student’s skills are cultivated to ensure they will become future
leaders in the areas of marketing and management.

laws.
Activities: Students meet one period per day in class and are employed following release
from school in an approved training under the supervision of the teachercoordinator.
Student Club activities provide an opportunity to develop leadership
skills. Excellent opportunity for students to gain work experience which can supplement
financial needs and provide a career decision-making opportunity.

Content: The cooperative education is program for students interested in pursuing a career in marketing related occupations, in the fields of retailing, advertising, selling,
and everyday business procedures. Special emphasis in communication
skills, interpersonal skills, supervisory skills, and human relations. Students will
enroll in daily class covering topics related to work in the marketing/retailing
fields. Students will also work at an approved marketing/retail related training station
as part of the program.
Activities: Class study, current business articles, and projects in related marketing/retailing class. On-the-job training, occasional fund raising, spring employee appreciation luncheon and school store work when appropriate. Membership in DECA (an association for Marketing students) is an integral part of this program.
