DRIVER EDUCATION*
Credit: None (Required Safety Education Course)
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. The student must have earned a minimum of eight credit hours in the previous two semesters in order to enroll in Driver Education.
Fees: A behind the wheel fee is required in addition to a Fee to the Secretary of State for a learners driver permit. The classroom textbook “Drive Right” must be purchased by the student.
Course Description: The required State of Illinois Driver Education course provides concurrent instruction and behind-the-wheel training. The one semester course includes a minimum of 30 hours (36 sessions of classroom instruction), 6 hours behind-the-wheel training and 6 hours behind-the-wheel observation. This class has been designed to fully meet the new instruction time requirements set by the State of Illinois. Enrollment is determined on the basis of age.
