Varied amounts This writing competition is open to students in grades 9 thru 12.  Students are required to submit a manuscript.   Manuscripts are judged in three categories:  Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, and Short Plays (poetry is not accepted).  Limit of two entries per category.  A signed entry form must accompany each entry.  Download entry from at www.colum.edu/Academics/Fiction_Writing/YA/YA09.  Submissions will not be returned. Gates Millennium Scholars Program Varied amounts High school senior who is of African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American descent.  Must be a citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the United States, have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.3 or higher, and plan to enroll at an accredited United States college or university as a full time student seeking a degree in one of the following:  engineering, education, library science, mathematics, or public health and science.  Student must also have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities.   Apply online at www.gmsp.org. 2009 Cisco Scholarship Award Program $2,000 High school senior who is a U.S. citizen and has provisionally been accepted as a full-time student into an undergraduate degree program at a four-year college or university.  Scholarship is available to children of building trade union members and employees of union contractors.  Recipients are selected on the basis of academic performance, faculty recommendation, extracurricular activities, employment experience, and a demonstrated interest in a productive career.  Must be postmarked by Feb. 13, 2009
AXA Achievement Community Scholarship $2,000 High school senior who is a U.S. citizen or legal resident planning to enroll full time in an accredited two or four year college or university by fall of 2009, is ambitious and motivated as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community and/or work activities.  For applications, visit website www.axa-achievement.com. $3,000 High school senior who has taken the ACT or SAT.  Priority is given to a child or grandchild of a Veteran who is presently serving in the military, or who served after September 15th, 1940 and was Honorably Discharged.  Student must also be a participant in the Junior ROTC program.  Essay required. What Drives You?
