U-46 Superintendent to Host Monthly Community Meetings
New U-46 school superintendent Dr. José M. Torres wants to hear what is on your mind, and has scheduled time to listen. Beginning in September, Torres will be holding open sessions to meet with U-46 community members. The first meeting will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 11 in the library of Elgin High School. Every other month, Torres will hold a noontime “brown bag lunch” for community members who are available during the day.
“The evening sessions at Elgin High all precede the Citizens’ Advisory Council (CAC) meeting. So community members who have an interest in becoming more involved with our school system may find a natural connection with the CAC,” said Torres.
For the brown bag lunch, community members are encouraged to bring their lunches and their ideas.

Since his arrival in U-46, Torres has already visited more than 30 schools, met with principals, and engaged community leaders. He is also scheduling a series of sit-down forums to meet teachers and other staff members in the coming months.
“In July I announced my 90-day ‘Listening and Learning Plan’ which will help me in quickly understanding the work that has been done, and the culture that exists, in U-46. However, we must always be available to listen and learn from our U-46 parents and communities,” Torres added.
The public is encouraged to continue commenting on the superintendent’s “Listening and Learning Plan” online at www.u-46.org.
