On November 8, 2008 Bartlett High School’s Academy Robotics Team (B.A.R.T.) competed in the Illinois BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics Inc. that pitted teams of students, assisted by coaches and mentor in competition to design, develop, build and promote a radio-controlled robot to accomplish a defined task. Sponsored by Johnson Controls, the contest is intended to simulate a real world business and technology environment and encourage development of skills sought by employers. The competition is designed to teach teamwork, problem solving and project management through use of limited time and resources.

Bartlett High School’s Robotic team had an awesome finish. Our robot received the 3rd place trophy in the competition. In addition to this, the team took home the 1st place trophy for the best all around project. We also won the Most Elegant Award for the robot. This qualified us for the national competition at Auburn University on December 12th and 13th. Davidson and Lincoln Way East High Schools also qualified.

The team would like to thank all of the parent and student volunteers who helped us out by hauling equipment and working the concession stand, information booth, photography, and security. Without your support, the competition would not have been as successful.

The following high schools competed in the competition:
Bartlett High School – Bartlett, IL,
Davison High School – Davison, MI,
Grand River Preparatory High School – Grand Rapids, MI,
Grandville High School – Grand Rapids, MI,
