Did you know that 1 in 11 people living in Illinois doesn't know where their next meal will come from or if it will come. The Northern Illinois Food Bank is working to create a hunger-free northern Illinois.
On Saturday, Nov. 22, several BHS students headed over to help. NIFB manager, Tia Milne, reported that "the Bartlett kids are a hard working group!" In one shift, the BHS team sorted, prepped, and packed over 6700 lbs. of meat to be forwarded to shelters. soup kitchens, etc. for holiday meals.
According to the Independent Sector, the value of a volunteer was calculated at $19.52 an hour for Illinois in 2007, but to NIFB, the value of a volunteer is priceless!
BHS volunteer Matt Yang commented that "this is a pretty satisfying way to spend a Saturday morning."
When the BHS team learned that additional volunteers were needed the following Tuesday to assemble Thanksgiving Meal boxes, several signed up to return and help again!
BHS Student Volunteers: Danny Hill, Kim Ippolito, Alex Leppert, Linnea Mengar, Alisa Mastrodomenico, Metchel Reiner, Vicki Rodgriguez, Morgan Sandelin, Matt Yang, Volunteer&Photographer Amanda Daniels, Volunteer&Coordinator Renée Berger. Also on the team: Niklaus Poferl, Zeke Romano. |
