  OCTOBER 2, 2008:
Below is a highlight of some of the topics you need to be aware of, and discussing with your student.

Important things to discuss with your student if they are a:

Senior:
  • Scheduling time with a counselor to ensure the application process for colleges and universities is in place.
  • Retaking the ACT: Seniors should retake the ACT every chance they get with the intentions of improving their overall ACT score. ACT only reports a student’s highest score to colleges and universities. There is no penalty or publication of how many times a student takes the ACT.
  • Checking the weekly Scholarship Chart on the web page under the Guidance link.
Junior:
  • Taking the PSAT.
  • ACT/PSAE test prep on StudentEdge and WorkKeys (available for free on the BHS web page).
  • Upcoming registration process for selecting next year’s classes. Taking AP and Honors classes have a significant advantage for the college application process, test preparation (ACT/SAT), and the possibility of earning college credit.
Sophomore:
  • Plan Test (November 6) forecasting test for the ACT.
  • Taking the PSAT.
  • Upcoming registration process for selecting next year’s classes. Taking AP and Honors classes have a significant advantage for the college application process, test preparation (ACT/SAT), and the possibility of earning college credit.
  • ACT/PSAE test prep on StudentEdge and WorkKeys (available for free on the BHS web page).
Freshman:
  • Establishing a relationship with their guidance counselor.
  • Getting involved, joining one of the many clubs or athletic teams at BHS.
  • Upcoming registration process for selecting next year’s classes. Taking AP and Honors classes have a significant advantage for the college application process, test preparation (ACT/SAT), and the possibility of earning college credit.

SEPTEMBER 22, 2008
The school year is in full swing and we are almost through first quarter. Parents, you should be receiving progress reports some time late next week in the mail. If you have any questions with your students progress in a class, please contact the teacher. Email addresses and voicemail extensions are available in the staff directory page of the website.

Homecoming week kicks off Sunday (9/28/08) with our annual homecoming parade. Check the events calendar for all the great activities going on during homecoming week.

Sophomores and juniors registration for the PSAT is 9/22/08-10/3/08 in the Guidance Office. The cost is $22 to take the test on Saturday, October 18. I strongly encourage every sophomore and junior to take the PSAT. It's great practice for your traditional SAT and ACT tests, and it provides National Merit Scholarship opportunities for juniors.

  STUDENTS AND STAFF
Great first week of school. Enjoy the three day weekend (Labor Day September 1) and I will see you all on Tuesday, September 2. Remember, Tuesday is a ABC day (late start) first period begins at 8:36 a.m. If you ride the bus, pick-up times follow the normal schedule like a regular day of school.

  STARTING A NEW SCHOOL YEAR

The First Day of School is Wednesday August 27, 2008.
Classes Beginning @ 7:40 a.m.

Students, come prepared for the first day of school. Make sure you bring your student handbook/planner you received at registration so you can write down important dates and materials you may need for your classes. Secondly, identify ways which you can get involved this school year. There are several great clubs, organizations, and teams that you can join. Remember, high school only lasts four years, so let's work together to make these four years some of the best years of your life.

I can't wait to see everyone on the 27th.....

GO HAWKS......
