District Seeks ISO:9001 Certification
U46 hopes to be recognized for its standards of quality

It's not a new space mission from N.A.S.A.

It is not a hot new T.V. show on FOX.

And, it is not a new form used by the I.R.S.

It is a new movement at School District U46 that aims to improve customer service and quality for our students, parents, staff and community in an effort to attain our top priority of Academic Success For All.

As this year's District Improvement Plan (DIP) places a major emphasis on customer service, U46 hopes to be counted among the handful of districts nationwide that have achieved ISO 9001 certification, an internationally recognized standard of quality management. To achieve ISO 9001 certification, the district will need to demonstrate that procedures exist and are consistently followed by management.  Procedures provide benchmarks, so that service can constantly be measured and improved.

Moving forward, the district has already trained twelve staff members to be certified auditors.  It will be their job to investigate procedures within the district to ensure that high quality systems are serving our customers in the best way possible.

By the spring of 2007, U46's operational services including Food Services, Transportation, Human Resources, Plant Operations, Information Services, Business Services and Finance will be audited by both the internal auditors and a team of external auditors in an effort to attain certification.  The goal is to achieve ISO 9001 status and then to maintain it by conducting periodic internal audits.
