Nutrition for Thinking Power

March is the month for state testing and we all want our children to do their best. Maintaining adequate blood sugar control is much like keeping enough gas in your car so that it will run. If your car runs out of fuel, it will stall.

Classic symptoms of a low blood sugar level are headaches, sweet cravings, nervousness and inability to think clearly.

Here's a list of foods which could help your student keep up his or her thinking power:

Eggs

Milk

Whole grain cereal

Whole grain bread or toast

Whole grain tortillas

Beans, refried beans

Low fat breakfast or turkey sausage

Peanut butter

Whole grain bread or toast

Fruit or fruit juice

Vegetables

Handful of nuts

Yogurt

Cheese

Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich

Tuna sandwich

Egg salad sandwich

Meat sandwich

Cheese sandwich

Whole grain crackers

Mozzarella sticks or cheese slices
