About Us

Information Services (I.S.) provides the technology infrastructure and support for School District U-46. Our efforts touch every student and teacher. In fact, I.S. is involved in the work of every employee in the district in some way . The full time staff of 46 is responsible for deploying and maintaining the District's network , 10,000+ workstations, peripherals, and the accompanying software.

Our work includes everything from maintaining computer labs in the schools to installing the software that plots the routes for over 263 bus routes in the district. Every piece of computer hardware or software utilized by U-46 is the responsibility of Information Services.

Instructional Technology provides the support for teachers as they expand their classroom activities to include different forms of technology to enhance student learning and provide unique learning experiences. Information Services and Instructional Technology work together to provide appropriate technology to all areas. Our current initiatives regarding technology refresh is a clear sign of U-46's commitment in these areas.

Under the guidance of the Chief Financial Officer, the department is headed up by the Director of Information Services. As part of the long term strategy and in response to an external audit the IS department is undergoing restructuring to better serve the schools and departments.

An assistant director and four managers form the management team of IS. The areas of responsibility are technical support, operations, curriculum applications and business applications. The IS staff serving in these areas is comprised of technicians, programmers and network and server system specialists.

Another key area of change is the technical support area which will provide technical support staff to every building every day of the week to provide increased local access to technical support personnel. The service strategy is going to provide level one and level two technical deskside support and network wide service/helpdesk support.
