Age and Obsolescence Plan

The School Board approved A&O (age and obsolescence) plan is designed to deal with the high level strategy on upgrading technology for building level staff and students. The overall strategy included the following concepts.

  1. Establishment of a technology baseline for students and staff.
  2. Establishment of equipment standards across the district.
  3. Establishment of software standards across the district.
  4. Structured phase out of obsolete equipment.
  5. Structured phase out of non-standard software.

Visit the Progress Page to view individual school progress pertaining to the A&O project. Project Detail and Frequently Asked Questions pages will be available soon.

We are now at a point in time where we need to work through the adjustments to the initial plan that will be necessary on a school by school basis. We will be using the following process to get to the end results:

  1. The IT department will issue a specific equipment plan for each building by 6/2/05.
  2. All requests for adjustments to the building specific plan will need to be processed through the building principal. These requests will then be coordinated by Dr. Paul Patterson with the technology implementation team.
  3. Buildings will receive by 6/2/05 specific instructions from your building technician on how to preserve your files during the upgrade.
  4. All equipment is to remain in the building over the summer unless specific permission is given by Dr. Patterson.
  5. The plan for your building will include a specific software load. Exceptions to the plan will be processed through the building principal. These requested exceptions will then be coordinated by Dr. Paul Patterson with the Technology Implementation Team.
  6. Because it is not possible to have all upgrades complete by the time staff return in August, obsolete equipment will remain in your building until the upgrade for your building begins. This means that if you are later in the schedule, you may be returning to a building with old equipment.
  7. Weekly updates to the implementation plan will be posted on the Instructional Technology and Information Services home page. Staff will be able to monitor progress on the implementation by monitoring the web site.

We believe that the full implementation process will take approximately 6 months. We have prioritized the schedule based on a combination of:

    • Summer construction schedule
    • CLC schools
    • MAPS testing
    • Read 180 programs
    • Instructional priority
    • Staff training
    • Other instructional issues

We thank you in advance for your patience as we go through this process of upgrading our technology capabilities.
