High School Meetings on Technology

1. Building technology use description

The major issue for high schools was the lack of functioning labs. Most high school labs have old equipment. All high schools had technology committees, but some were more active than others. Most departments have at least one strong technology user who supports other teachers.

Major factors affecting technology use were:

  • Lack of dependable technology in lab and labs often to small to accommodate large classes
  • Existence of technology advocates (principal and/or teachers) in the building .

2. Recommendations for improvement?

  • Technology access, dependability, and support
    • Update computer labs and assure there are enough computers for large classes
    • Provide classroom computers
    • Add computers to department offices
    • Provide more LCD projectors
    • Add a supervised student walk-in lab
    • Add more technical support
    • Provide access to school files from home
    • Provide technologies that will ease teacher administrative duties
    • Allow teachers to use personal computers on our network
    • Avoid cascading equipment
  • Instructional support and professional development
    • Add an instructional technology resource person that can work with teachers during the school day
    • Design technology professional development around improvement of instruction
    • Develop a defined and dedicated technology professional development plan
    • Provide paid professional development time at the beginning of the school year.
