Software

Software is essential to technology. Information Services currently supports over 3,000 software titles and versions within School District U-46. These software programs affect every aspect of the district, both through instruction and administration.

For example, software is used to track student learning and handle payroll and purchasing. District email allows staff and parents to communicate. Student assessment information is available to principals and teachers electronically so schools can see how students are progressing and target problem areas for additional instruction and support.

In Food Services, every student ordering lunches has an account that is debited as they purchase meals. All the meal reports needed by this department are provided electronically.

Health Services utilizes database spreadsheets for students with health concerns,  tracking immunizations, and a shared server area providing all health service employees with access to forms, letters, schedules and procedure manuals.

In the classroom, software is used to teach reading, math, science, and everything in between. Students use programs in the library for research, word processing programs to write papers, and lab simulation programs for science experiments.

These are but a few examples of the diverse and complex programs used within District U-46 which Information Services is responsible for installing, upgrading, and supporting.

Information Services supports both business applications and curriculum applications throughout the district. We also provide mechanisms and resources to exchange data between the various applications.

The Instructional Technology Commitee (ITC) has been formed to address software standards and professional development as well as processes to handle exceptions in that area. Software standards will reduce training needs and improve data sharing and data compatibility in all areas.
