Technology Projects

The Information Services department is working to improve the technology and support provided in the district.  Visit the A&O Plan page for information about the School Board approved A&O (age and obsolescence) plan which is designed to deal with the high level strategy on upgrading technology for building level staff and students.

Currently the department is working in the following areas:

Governance and Project Management

  •  Establishment of an Executive Technology Committee that will insure cohesive leadership in the district. - completed -
  •  Establishment of an Instructional Technology Committee to provide improved feedback by building level users and complement the work of other district stakeholders such as Instructional Council, Building Principals and the Curriculum and Instruction Team and other departments.

  • Establishment of new procurement procedures.

Technology Projects

  • Review process is being put in place for all pilot projects to ensure programs can be assessed to determine value, maintained and expanded, if appropriate, after the pilot period.

Software and Equipment Standards

  • Standards will be implemented for all instructional software and the current list of 3,000 titles will be reviewed with an approval process being developed and facilitated by the Instructional Technology Committee.

Age and Obsolescence

Technology Support

  • technology support plan for schools being implemented as a tiered service model:
    • level one technical support personnel
    • level two technical support personnel
    • network wide service/helpdesk staff

Infrastructure Support

  • Analysis of the current infrastructure and development of a plan for upgrades.
    • T1 line connectivity for Elementary Schools under review
  • Network upgrades at Elementary and Middle Schools
    • Router upgrades to all Elementary Schools
    • Implementation of fully switched Ethernet network
    • Preparation for VoIP rollout to all Elementary schools
    • Additional network capacity for new labs and mini labs
  • Investigating and planning for wireless and remote access tools
