Standards
Both national and state standards guide the curriculum and instruction in our math classes. The national standards have been created under the auspices of national subject area specialists, educators, and researchers. National standards are designed to provide guidelines for content, instructional strategies, assessment, professional growth, and policy decisions regarding math learning, based on research and best practices. Using the national standards, Illinois State Learning Standards have been developed by educators at all levels of instruction, under the direction of the Illinois State Board of Education. State goals and standards provide specific information about what students should know and be able to do at various stages in their education: early elementary, late elementary, middle school, early high school, and late high school. These standards are increasingly important in helping our schools gauge the success of students in reaching the expectations of the No Child Left Behind movement. School District U-46 has taken standards-based instruction a step further with the development of the Curriculum Roadmap . The Roadmap was developed as part of the District Improvement Plan and provides specific goals for our students at each grade level. This guides teachers in mapping out the academic journey our students take.
