Welcome to a new school year at School District U-46. The district continues its commitment to our goal of Academic Success for All our students.  This year will see a number of changes at all grade levels in efforts to reach that goal.

At the elementary level we are working to reduce class sizes. While this may make for some confusion at the beginning of the year when enrollment figures are being confirmed, it will make the classroom environment one that will support student success. One of the results of this effort has been the creation of two grades in multi-age classrooms in many of our elementary schools. More information is available on that topic through this link.

At the middle school students have the opportunity to sign up for a world language class. This provides an academically challenging class for students who do not need to take the reading course offered at the middle school. It is in keeping with the commitment to more rigorous classes for our students. Along with world language students are offered AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). The AVID class provides support for students “in the middle” who are taking more challenging honors or Advanced Placement classes. The AVID class is more than tutoring; it encourages higher level thinking and provides students with the tools they will need to be successful. More information on AVID is available through this link .

The high schools will see an increase in the number of Advanced Placement classes that are offered. Students qualifying will be able to take the AVID class to support them in their efforts to take more demanding classes.

This site is divided by grade level providing information that relates to every stage of a child's educational experience.

At every level the district is working to help students meet the demands of life in the 21st century.
