Welcome to the U-46/ETA

Teacher Mentor Program

The U-46/ETA Teacher Mentor Program is an award winning ISBE approved employee support and assistance initiative. Its vision and goals are designed to be both effective and of high quality. In pursuit of these goals the TMP employs a differentiated model of mentoring for all new teachers to School District U-46. Some examples of this differentiation are:

  • A two year program for all new teachers new to the profession
  • A one year program for experienced new teachers new to U-46
  • One-one mentor model
  • Full time mentor cohorts model
  • A program for all “teachers”. Those in the classroom and those in other areas such as nurses, social workers, psychologists, diagnosticians, speech language pathologists, librarians, instructional specialists, and counselors.

The TMP is a formal mentoring program which compels mentors and mentees to work closely together and engage in a variety of program level and classroom based activities designed to enhance professional practice.

The TMP is a collaborative undertaking between School District U-46 and the Elgin Teachers Association. Since its inception 1998, TMP leadership, program participants, and program partners have all worked together based upon the tenants of a professional learning community and focused squarely on best practices in the area of mentoring & induction. As a result, the TMP has become an agent of change for school district U-46 as it pursues its mission of ensuring that all students will learn.
