  • School Improvement Plan (SIP)

    The staff of Harriet Gifford is committed to a model of continuous school improvement. We have a dedicated team of teachers and interested parents who meet monthly and review our SIP goals and make recommendations to the rest of our staff. 

    For the 2020-21 School Year our SIP Goals will center around:

    • Standards Based Learning and Assessment
      • School Goal Statement: Our school will ensure that every student from PreK to 6th grade, from every culture, background, and demographic, has access to standards-based core instruction that is differentiated, that uses their strengths, and in which formative assessments support student growth in Tier I, Tier II and Tier III. 
    • Social and Emotional Wellness
      • School Goal Statement:  Harriet Gifford School will ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all students through developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate practices in Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III.
    • Family and Community Engagement
      • School Goal Statement:Harriet Gifford School will welcome, empower, and recognize every family, from every culture, background, and demographic, as essential partners in their child’s education, school planning and decision making at Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III.  Harriet Gifford School will include and consider the input of government agencies, non-profit organizations, business and the community in general in ensuring equity of programs to every student, from every culture, background, and demographic in Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III.

    For the 2020-21 School Year Our Strategies in Action Measure What Matters will cernter on:

    • Implementing the new Integrated Curriculum
      • Smart Goal: By the end of the academic school year 2020-2021, 100% of teachers will be implementing the integrated curriculum, standards and assessments with fidelity ensuring that all grade levels increase 5% their observed reading growth as measured in the NWEA MAP assessment
    • Implementing the District Math Curriculum
      • Smart Goal: 100% of the teachers will be implementing the Standards based math curriculum and assessments with fidelity so that by the end of the 2020-2021 school year, observed math growth as measured by NWEA MAP will increase by 6% per grade level. 
    • Improving Student Attendance
      • Smart Goal: All teachers and support staff will personally communicate with students and parents/guardians to make school attendance will improve by reducing chronically absent students by 2% during SY 2020-2021.
    • Ensuring High Fidelity of PBIS
      • Smart Goal: All teachers and staff will use positive communication and restorative practices to improve student school behavior by reducing the percent of students receiving 2 or more referrals by 1% from the 19-20 school year to 20-21 (the current percentage is 9%, a 1% decrease would look like 4-5 less (fewer?) students falling into this range with a checkpoint at December)
    • Increasing Stakeholder Engagement
      • Smart Goal: Through personal communication, teachers and staff will increase parent involvement and engagement at goal setting and conference nights as well as parent participation in school committee by 5% (1-2 parents) per classroom.
