Mobile Food Pantry Events
- Friday, November 1st - Highland Elementary School and the Northern Illinois Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry at 109 N. Melrose Elgin.
- Tuesday, November 5th - Greater Family Care Center and the Northern Illinois Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry at 373 Summit Street, Elgin.
- Friday, November 15th - VNA and Northern Illinois Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry at 801 Villa St. Elgin
During the Northern Illinois Mobile Food Pantry Events, funded by the Elgin Township, 267 families received groceries that consisted of milk, eggs, cabbage, chicken, cereal and so much more. Give Me Five! collaborated with EPEL and the YWCA of Elgin to bring books, coloring books and information about Christmas assistance to families.
Learning Math Concepts through Literature
Thursday, November 7th
Give Me Five! and Elgin Partnership for Early Learning (EPEL) presented “Learning Math Concepts through Literature” to 11 ECC students and 7 Early Childhood Family Care Providers. They had the opportunity to tour some of the U-46 preschool classrooms to look for ways to incorporate math every day. Looking at some ordinary materials, they brainstormed ways to make a math activity from it. Everyone went home with new books and new ideas to bring to their classrooms.
Story Time at the Laundromat
Tuesday, November 19th
Give Me Five! made an unplanned stop at Blue Kangaroo and Jet Xpress. Families with young children took home new books, listened to a story and made crowns.
Salvation Army Christmas Assistance Program
Thursday, November 21st
Salvation Army Christmas Assistance Program Registration Event at 316 Douglas Avenue, Elgin.
Give Me Five! and EPEL passed out a variety of books for over 150 children. For the children that came along with their parents, it gave them the opportunity to read while they waited their turn to register.
