  • Congratulations to Riya Kumar, Elgin High School National Merit Finalist

     

    On April 10, 2018 all Juniors will be taking the revised SAT test at Elgin High School 7:40 am to 12:00 p.m.  When all juniors have completed testing they will be release to exit the building.  These students must find alternative transportation home.   Their school day is done at noon.

    February 5 - 9, 2018

    National School Counseling Week 2018, "School Counseling: The Recipe for Success,"  will be celebrated from Feb. 5-9, 2018, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems.

     

    National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.

     

    Elgin High School’s Guidance department will be hosting an Open House with food for colleagues to collaborate and discuss ways to improve the school counseling program, counselors will focus on a school counseling issue each day of the week through morning announcements via school intercom, there will be daily contests/games (with prizes) that engage students in learning more about the school counseling staff, a bulletin board will be displayed in a main area that highlights the school counseling staff and the types of things they do, tags with the following saying: Listeners, Informers, Friends, Encouragers, Scholars, Advocates, Visionaries, Educators, 

    Reinforces will be attach to Lifesavers and distributed to staff, posters will be hung around the school highlighting school counseling services, an advertisement will be sent to parents and teachers about what counselors do for and with students relative to the academic, social/personal, and/or career/college domains, and last but not least counselors will have lunch with colleagues.

    FAFSA Workshops

    The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. We suggust you apply and complete your application by November 10, 2017 to insure possible funding such as Pell Grant & MAP Grant.  These two grants you do not pay back. Colleges can be affordable with the help of the FAFSA.

     

    The counseling department will be hosting the FAFSA completion workshops.  FAFSA is the free application for Federal Student Aid that all colleges/universities require. We will have a representative from ISAC to help parents through the application process.

    FAFSA TIME

     

    Documents to bring to the workshop:

    1. Social Security numbers and/or Alin Registration number
    2. Records of Income 2016 Tax Returns/W2/IIRS 1040
    3. Driver's License
    4. Information about assets: savings, bonds, etc
    5. Dates of Birth of student & parents.
