PE Exemption Appeal Process
School District U-46 has established a PE Exemption Appeals Committee made up of administrators, guidance counselors, a PE teacher, a parent and a student representative to examine any appeals made by students who were denied a PE exemption for 2016-17 using the college admission reason as described in the Illinois School Code 5/27-6 (from Ch. 122, par. 27-6)
If a student or parent testified at the Feb. 22 Board of Education meeting, the District considers this testimony an appeal and will be reviewing the student’s case. Any other students who would like to appeal their PE exemption denial should let their counselor know by noon Thursday, March 3.
The Committee intends to review all requests for appeals and share final decisions with high school counselors the week of March 7, 2016. High School Counselors will then call students to a private meeting to let them know the final decision. If a PE exemption is denied, the committee will provide the rationale for the denial. The decisions of the Appeals Committee will be final.?
