Parent Promise

  • Two students on the first day of kindergarten School District U-46 is excited to welcome the parents of the Class of 2031 -  our current class of Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) students.

U-46 is encouraging every FDK family to commit to being involved in their child’s education through the “Parent Volunteer Promise.” The Promise aims to engage parents in various involvement opportunities, whether it is reading at home with their child, chaperoning field trips, attending a Board of Education meeting, or serving on a school or District advisory group. Parents are asked to pledge to volunteer at least five hours toward their child’s education this school year.

The Promise is being distributed at parent-teacher conferences and needs to be returned by Feb. 14. FDK parents who have not received the Promise can click the link to download a copy of the form in English or in Spanish.

FDK parents are asked to complete the Volunteer Information section of the Promise, tear it off and return it to their child’s teacher. They are encouraged to fill out the other side of the Promise as well and place it in a visible location at home as a reminder of the commitment.

The District will tally all responses and monitor both the number of signed Promises as well as the number of parents who fulfill their Promise. In the 2017-18 school year, 41 percent of kindergarten parents completed and returned a signed Promise. The District’s goal, for the 2018-19 school year, is for 51 percent of our approximate 2,500 Full-Day Kindergarten families to sign and return the Promise.
