Eric Loera
-
Streamwood High School (SHS) senior Eric Loera served as the 2016-17 Student Advisor to the U-46 Board of Education. Eric provided a voice for his peers and encouraged community involvement through various extracurricular activities and leadership roles. He represented Latinos Unidos as President, National Honors Society Vice President, Vice Chair of the Youth at Hanover Township Committee and was Chair of the Principal’s Student Advisory Council.
“As a U-46 Student Advisor, I’ve had the privilege to meet and engage with the community,” Eric said. “I’m able to continue to develop an effective voice for students and work towards unifying the cultures of every school.”
Eric participated in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program and promoted a college-bound environment. He aspires to be a local government official to focus on helping communities and providing services and programs to families and youth. Eric credits Ms. Maynard, AVID Coordinator at SHS, and Mr. Barone, AVID teacher, for taking him under their wing and believing in his potential.
“Without my experience at School District U-46, I would not be on the path to success,” Eric said. “It is my firm belief that I am a product of the opportunities that the District has created for its students.”
After graduating in May 2017, Eric went on to major in public administration and minor in political science in the Capital Scholars Honors Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Eric hopes the Board and future Student Advisors will continue to promote the best learning environment for their peers while demonstrating that U-46 is a welcoming place for any student to succeed.
