We have been getting a lot of questions about the differences between Infinite Campus and Canvas so I would like to take a moment to explain the different platforms.  Canvas is a web-based learning management system, or LMS. It is used by teachers and students to access and manage online course learning materials and communicate about skill development and learning achievement.
Canvas LMS allows teachers to manage digital learning, create and present online learning materials, and assess student learning, and allows students to engage in courses and receive feedback about skill development and learning achievement.  One of the best features about Canvas is that teachers can provide students with comprehensive feedback on assignment and quiz submissions using SpeedGrader.

While Canvas is used for the day to day learning and grading, Infinite Campus is the district-wide student information system designed to manage attendance, grades, schedules, test scores, and other information about students.  Infinite Campus is the primary place you should go to check students daily attendance and grades.  The Infinite Campus portal for parents provides access to register students for the upcoming school year, pay fees, view schedules for secondary students and more. Links for Infinite Campus can be found on the home pages for the district website and the Kenyon Woods Website.

If you need help in retrieving your Infinite Campus login information, click here for instructions to recover username and password. Otherwise, send a password reset request to passwordresetonly@u-46.orgTeachers may email their students via Infinite Campus.

Finally, we are working on providing you, as the parent, more resources to help support your students as they learn to navigate digital learning.  In order to determine where you need support, please take a moment to answer this short survey.  Your results are anonymous and will be used to help us create more resources for you and your students.  CLICK HERE to access the survey.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MEET UP STUDENT SUPPORTS ~ Many of the lessons covered during this time are designed to help students with various Executive Functioning Skills. Executive Function skills are self-management skills that help students (and adults) achieve goals. In order to be effective, students must be able to manage their emotions, focus attention, organize and plan their work and time, and reflect upon and revise their tactics as circumstances change. As the demands of school increase each year, having well developed Executive Function skills becomes critical in order to perform well in school.  In order to better help support your students, we will be sharing these lessons with each of you.

During the 9/23/20 Middle School Meet Up, information will be shared with all students on the various Magnet Academies and the changes to the application process.

MAGNET ACADEMY INFO AND OPEN HOUSES: The application process for the District’s five Magnet Academies will be opening October 1, 2020. Students who are in 8th grade can submit applications from October 1, 2020 through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020. The Magnet Academy application forms, and detailed instructions, can be found at https://www.u-46.org/magnetacademies.

To help students and their families better understand the focus of the Magnet Academies, they are all hosting virtual open houses next week. View the schedule here.

Students will also be receiving information during their Middle School Meet Up class this Wednesday, September 23rd.

CHROMEBOOK REMINDER ~ Be kind to your Chromebook and remember the importance of signing out and shutting down once a day. It helps with the internal organization of https://www.u-46.org/Page/15655the device and keeps it running smoothly.

In addition, if you are having hardware issues with your Chromebook, we now have a small supply of Chromebook here at the building for replacements.  Please email Mrs. Regan at jenniferregan@u-46.org to arrange a time to exchange your chromebook.

ASYNCHRONOUS PERIODS ~ If your child is struggling with an assignment or some feature of Canvas, please encourage them to meet with their teachers during their asynchronous periods or office hours.  Teachers are available during those times to work with students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.  This is a unique opportunity for all of our students to get more personalized help as needed.

FALL SPORTS AND INTRAMURALS ~ At this time, all Middle School fall sports and intramurals are being rescheduled for the Second Semester.  The plan right now is to offer shortened seasons for these activities.  Once I have a schedule, I will share that information with you.

EXPANSION OF THE FREE MEAL PROGRAM ~ School District U-46 is adding nearly 40 community sites where families can pick up free breakfast and lunch meals for children 18 and under on weekdays during Distance Learning. The new sites are in addition to the 40 school sites where the free meals have been served since early this month, and in some cases, since last spring.

Members of the U-46 Transportation Department and Food & Nutrition Services will be using some of the District’s mini-buses to bring the food to these community sites, which include parks, apartment complexes, and parking lots.

Families can pick whichever location works best for them each day — either one of the existing school sites, or one of the new community sites.

Either way, no paperwork is required to pick up the meals. The children do not have to be present and a friend, relative, or neighbor can pick up your family’s meal if you are not able to pick it up. The meals are packaged to take home.

For an updated schedule, list of locations, and printable flyers please visit www.u-46.org/food-distribution.

We have a few ideas, but need many more. That's why we need you!  We will hold an    informational ZOOM meeting on September 23rd at 8:30 am

MISSING ASSIGNMENT EMAILS ~ Starting this Saturday, September 12th, we will be sending out automated missing assignment emails.  These will be generated by the information found in Infinite Campus.  Teachers will have their grades updated weekly by the end of the day on Fridays and the emails will go out the next day.  If you and your student receive a notification about a missing assignment, please contact the teacher directly for support.
