Daily rate for substitute teachers to increase Oct. 4, 2021

  • Substitute Teachers graphic with dates Substitute teachers have always been a valuable part of the U-46 community, and that has never been more true than during the 2021-22 school year. Their role in classrooms during the pandemic has been extremely important in maintaining in-person learning for our students.

To express our appreciation, School District U-46 is increasing the daily rate we pay substitute teachers by an additional $20 a day.

Starting Monday, Oct. 4, the rates U-46 will pay our substitutes will be $130 a day for general education classes,  $140 a day for Dual Language classes, and $140 a day for Special Education classes.

Because U-46 is committed to Professional Development for our teachers, there are more than a dozen days during the 2021-22 school year when substitute teachers can make an additional $20 a day. During these days, substitute teachers will allow our classroom educators to receive additional training. Those dates are Oct. 5, 6, 7; Jan. 12,12 13, 2022; Jan. 18, 19, 20, 2022; Jan. 26, 27, 2022; Feb. 1, 2, 2022; and March 8, 9, 10, 2022.

Note that all substitute teachers, like all of our U-46 employees, will need to comply with Gov. Pritzker’s Executive Order No. 87 that mandates public school employees to either receive a COVID-19 vaccine or agree to weekly COVID-19 testing. More information is available at u-46.org/executiveorder

Those who have already substitute teach for U-46 regularly do not need to do anything special; they will see the increased pay rate reflected in future checks.
