• Community Leaders Invited to Serve as 'Principal for a Day' in U-46

  • Illinois State Senator Andy Manar School District U-46 will host its 11th annual Principal for a Day event on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018. The program brings community leaders into schools to serve as a “principal” for a morning, allowing them to experience school life through a new lens across the District’s 11 communities.

“This annual event is not only a way to celebrate our schools, but it is also an opportunity for our District to create and strengthen relationships with community leaders who can be wonderful resources all year long,” said CEO Tony Sanders.

The guest principals will also convene for a luncheon at Villa Olivia in Bartlett, sponsored by Marco, a leading technology service provider. The featured speaker, Illinois State Senator Andy Manar, is expected to address state education initiatives.

Manar, a Democrat, was first elected to the Illinois Senate in 2012 representing the 48th District, which includes a large section of central Illinois. Manar has advocated for fiscal responsibility and improved voter access. Recently, Manar was a driving force behind the successful movement to reform the school funding formula which helped bring an additional $24 million to U-46.

Members of the community who are interested in participating as a guest principal or who would like to know more about the event can contact Karla Jiménez, U-46's coordinator of Family & Community Engagement, at karlajimenez@u-46.org or 847-888-5000 ext. 4211.
