S.A.F.E. Childcare

  • SAFE FAMILIES: The following notice was sent to all known emails of elementary families on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. More information on a new Right At School childcare can be found here.

Dear School District U-46 Elementary Families,

We are excited to announce a new childcare partnership that will provide expanded before- and after-care school programming for all elementary students and families. Effective as of the start of the 2020-21 school year in August, Right At School, a national organization that provides high-quality programming, will be offered to families at all 40 of our elementary schools.

This marks a significant expansion over what is provided through SAFE, our current before- and after-care on-site programming. With Right At School, there will be no waiting lists, which we know has been a significant concern for parents. We expect this new program will be able to serve more U-46 students and families, at a lower cost. Right At School will also accept the state childcare subsidy. Our current SAFE program will continue to operate through the end of this school year and during the summer.

This national organization offers an engaging and fun curriculum that addresses social-emotional development which increasingly has been cited as a high priority for educators and families. Right At School provides this before- and after-care programming in nearby districts including Grayslake, Fremont, Evanston, and quite a few schools within the City of Chicago.

As part of the transition, Right At School plans to offer priority interviews to current SAFE staff in an effort to provide continuity of personnel to support our students. The organization will be hosting meetings with SAFE staff and information sessions for families. We will inform you as dates and locations are confirmed but the first Welcome Parent Forum and Activity Night hosted by Right at School will be as follows:

    • Date: March 18, 2020
    • Time: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Location: Kimball Middle School, 451 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin, 60123

All are welcome to attend and Right At School will provide childcare for potty-trained children, ages 3 and above.  Additional parent session dates and locations will be shared via email, our U46Engage newsletter, social media and via our website later this month.

For more information about Right At School, and a fee schedule, call 1-855-287-2466 or get on the mailing list here to receive more information. Registration for the 2020-21 school year opens in April.

Please note that we will maintain our current partnership with local community after-care programs such as The Boys and Girls Club which has long supported our students and families with wonderful programming. Those services will continue at their current sites.

More details about this new program can be found here.  We look forward to working with you to ensure a smooth transition to this new programming.

    All my best,

    Tony Sanders

    Superintendent School District U-46

    • Hora: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Lugar: Escuela Intermedia Kimball, 451 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin, 60123

    Atentamente,

    Tony Sanders

    Superintendente del Distrito Escolar U-46
