The U-46 Planetarium (1963), and former ENWC Observatory (1909), is located at 312 Watch St. in Elgin, Illinois. The program is run by the U-46 Science Department with one full-time licensed educator providing unique learning experiences for students throughout the school year.

The School District U-46 Planetarium, located at 312 Watch Street in Elgin, opened its doors in September 1963 for students to learn about astronomy under the dome.
The planetarium is an addition on the back of the 1910 Elgin National Watch Company Observatory; a building on the National Register of Historic Places. During its continuous operation over the last 60 years, over a million students have been mesmerized by the majesty of the night sky through lessons at the planetarium.
The building is occasionally open to the public for evening sky shows during the school year. Click the "Public Sky Show" tab on the left for more information. The facility is not open during the summer.
It is also a community treasure with activities scheduled during the year to open the doors to those with an interest in astronomy, history or just reliving a childhood memory of sitting in the seats and viewing the stars.
