Department Information

The safety of students and staff at School District U-46 is a top priority. In today’s society, the heightened focus on security and safety protocols is imperative. Safe school planning is a partnership that includes local emergency responders, community members, government leaders, social service networks, parents, and students. Through this collaboration, safer environments for students and employees can be accomplished.

This is the work of the School Safety department. This department is responsible for working with the schools and operational service departments to implement district-wide safety standards and comprehensive crisis response plans while maintaining a high level of building security.

School Safety personnel work closely with U-46 municipalities who contract with the district to provide School Resource Officers in schools.  Although the SROs are employees of their municipalities, they work in concert with School Safety to provide a safe and secure environment for U-46 students and employees.

Your Part in School Safety

When an emergency occurs in our schools, we want to assure you that School District U-46 is prepared. With the help of our School Resource Officers and local emergency responders, we maintain an emergency plan that assists us in responding to various situations.

As part of the plan, we need your cooperation and assistance and ask that you ensure your contact information is up-to-date and if you or your child see or hear of something that may be of concern, that you immediately share that information with school or district administration.

We thank you for your cooperation before, during, and after a situation occurs to help us keep your children safe while they are in our care.

Stay Connected to U-46

Information regarding weather and other emergencies are shared with parents/guardians through various communication methods which may include email, phone calls, and texts, as well as on the District mobile app, website, and social media platforms.

Stay in the know by ensuring your contact information is up-to-date, download the U-46 mobile app from the Apple Play or Google Stores, and follow the district and individual schools on our social platforms (see below).

Have a question or concern that you want to share with the district? Let’s Talk! is an open invitation from U-46 to submit feedback or a question directly to the U-46 district or school employee who can promptly respond. You'll also get a chance to offer feedback on the response.  Comments may be submitted in the form anonymously, but in those situations, the district will be unable to send a response.
