STEM Expo Kick-Off Events Designed to Inspire a Research Project
Nov. 6, 2018
U-46 will host kick-off events this month at local libraries to prepare students and families for the 2019 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Expo, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23 at Bartlett High School.
The kick-off events will give students a chance to engage with cutting edge technologies, experiment with next-generation science, examine and check out live chemistry and physics demonstrations, and explore all STEM areas.
The STEM Expo is open to all students in kindergarten through 12th grade who live within the boundaries of U-46, said Deb Perryman, Coordinator of K-12 Science and Planetarium. Students do not need to be enrolled in a U-46 school to participate in the STEM Expo, during which students create a STEM-related project and then present it to fellow students, families, and community members for critique, Perryman said.
"The kick-off events are designed to introduce students to topics that might inspire their STEM Expo research project," Perryman said. "Students are encouraged to explore a question or concept that interests them, create a project, and share their learning with their community."
