Community Feedback Sought as Part of Facilities Study
Nov. 23, 2020
As part of work to develop an Educational Facility Master Plan to support teaching and learning in the 21st century, School District U-46 is asking parents, students, alumni, business owners, residents, and other community members to provide their feedback via a short survey.
The survey, located at bit.ly/U46FacilitySurvey, should take less than 15 minutes to complete. Replies are being accepted until Nov. 30. This survey is anonymous, and responses will be aggregated; it is available in English, Spanish, Urdu, Gujarati and Polish.
The District is working with the DLR Group, a Chicago-based design firm, to assess the District’s infrastructure, classrooms, furnishings, and overall facility use and efficiency as part of developing a thoughtful, long-term master plan to support the District’s future.
The process was already underway when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and spurred a transition to remote learning. With a few modifications, the District has been able to continue the facilities review, including condition assessments, laser scanning of existing facilities, energy analysis, and virtual workshops with a number of departments and groups.
“With the current challenges posed by the pandemic, it’s hard to look beyond our day-to-day needs,” said Dr. Jeff King, Deputy Superintendent of Operations. “However, this creation of an Educational Facility Master Plan will serve families and students for decades with 21st century learning environments.”
Community members will be invited to attend an online live meeting in January where lessons learned to date, including survey results, will be shared.
