U-46 Schools to Celebrate American Education Week
Nov. 18, 2019
School District U-46’s teachers and paraprofessionals will be honored with an “Accent on Achievement” during Monday night’s Board of Education meeting as part of American Education Week.
American Education Week is always celebrated one week before Thanksgiving, and this year’s theme is “Reach. Educate. Inspire.” It is organized by the National Education Association, along with 13 other organizations including the U.S. Department of Education and the National PTA.
The week is designed to recognize, honor, and support public education and the many individuals who ensure a high-quality learning experience for students.
“Every day we all need to appreciate the hard work, talent, and dedication of our teachers and paraprofessionals,” said U-46 CEO Tony Sanders. “This week, though, we set aside to ensure we appropriately celebrate these educators for how they shape future generations.”
Each day during American Education Week has a specific focus, and many schools across U-46 will be holding special activities to honor these groups:
-
Monday, Nov. 18: Kickoff Day
-
Tuesday, Nov. 19: Parents Day
-
Wednesday, Nov. 20: Education Support Professionals Day
-
Thursday, Nov. 21: Educator for a Day
-
Friday, Nov. 22: Substitute Educators Day
The “Accent on Achievement” will be presented at Monday’s Board meeting to Barbara Bettis, president of the Elgin Teachers Association, and Sara Moeller, president of the District U-46 Educational Assistants union. The meeting will take place in room 140 of the Educational Services Center.
