Mensaje en español se encuentra al final.
April 9, 2020
Dear School District U-46 Students, Parents/Guardians, and Staff,
I hope you’ve been able to enjoy the beautiful weather this week - while practicing social distancing. It’s more important than ever that we continue to stay home or, if we go out, keep it limited and maintain six or more feet from others.
We’ve been working to provide some additions to support our Distance Learning Program this week. As I’ve mentioned, we will be rolling out a second phase of technology distribution that will begin next Tuesday, April 14.
During this phase of our technology distribution, we will be providing iPads for our pre-K students and Chromebooks for targeted students in grades K-12. For the Chromebook distribution, we are prioritizing fifth through twelfth graders who do not currently have a device, as well as households with the largest gaps between the number of students and number of devices. If you are eligible to pick up a device(s) next week, you will receive a separate communication from your school with more details.
We expect next week's distribution will dramatically increase the number of devices in the hands of students. We expect a third round of devices will be distributed later this spring to complete our 1:1 device distribution for our more than 38,000 PreK-12 students.
We appreciate the feedback and requests for help with addressing internet access issues and we hope to soon share an update on additional options for household internet access.
For those keeping track at home, our Food and Nutrition Department has distributed 418,269 meals and 139,423 snacks to date to our families at 26 of our sites, including 46,000 meals and more than 15,000 snacks today.
Remember, tomorrow is our Spring Holiday and it is considered a day off from school. While there will be no virtual sessions, students can continue to work on any ongoing projects or assignments or simply dive into an independent learning adventure. I hope that you and your families remain healthy and well.
All my best,
Superintendent Tony Sanders
School District U-46
Superintendente Tony Sanders
