U46Engage Sessions to Welcome Parents of Early Learners to District
April 8, 2019
School District U-46 will host informational sessions in April for parents and guardians of current and incoming kindergarten students. The sessions, called U46Engage, are designed to help parents confidently navigate their young learner’s educational journey through the state’s second-largest district.
Parents will learn about the various academic programs, services and opportunities available in the District’s K-12 schools, such as Dual Language education and gifted programming, as well as ways they can support their child’s education at home, school or at the District level.
“The U46Engage sessions help our District start to build that important relationship with parents and guardians at the very start of their child’s public school experience,” said CEO Tony Sanders. “In turn, we ask these parents to continue being engaged in their child’s education, because we know parental engagement is a key part of student success in the areas of academics, attendance, and social and emotional growth.”
The 90-minute English-language sessions will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 in the cafeteria annex at Bartlett High School, 701 W. Schick Road, Bartlett. The Spanish-language session will be offered at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 in the library of Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin.
Activities for children ages 4 (potty trained) and older will be available. Parents do not need to register, but they can direct questions to the Coordinator of Family & Community Engagement Karla Jiménez at karlajimenez@u-46.org.
Both sessions of U46Engage will feature an expert panel made of U-46 administrators, followed by a roundtable conversation with a U-46 parent, student, principal, and U-46 Board of Education member.
