Basket Brigade Provides Thanksgiving Meals for U-46 Families in Need
Thursday, Nov. 21
The staff and families of School District U-46 are once again showcasing their big hearts with a Thanksgiving initiative to provide about 10,000 meals to those in need.
Basket Brigade, a 100 percent volunteer-run organization is working with Tefft Middle School in Streamwood to provide 2,000 Thanksgiving meal baskets for struggling families living in the U-46 area. The meal baskets are large enough to feed a family of five and will be delivered to families the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Volunteers will meet at Tefft Middle School during the morning Saturday Nov. 23 to assemble baskets and deliver them to families. Food provided includes a turkey, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans, bread rolls, and more. This is a meal the family can enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.
“Thanksgiving is about more than just being grateful for what you have. It’s about being generous and kind toward others,” said Dr. Luis Fernando DeLeon, Principal of Tefft Middle School. “That’s why we are so excited to partner with Basket Brigade. We both value and care for the people living in our community, and we will not let them go without having a nice Thanksgiving meal.”
Families are identified through nominations made on the organization’s website. There is no income requirement and all information is kept confidential.
The organization serves families living within Streamwood, Hanover Park, Bartlett, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove, Elgin and South Elgin area.
This is the first year Basket Brigade has partnered with a U-46 school to host an event site, but it is the fifth year they have served families in the District.
