Explore 2022 to Showcase Curriculum to Career Pathways
Oct. 4, 2022
More than 2,500 8th graders and teachers in School District U-46 will participate on Thursday, Oct. 6, in Explore 2022 at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. Explore is the District’s annual expo designed to expose students to various careers and demonstrate the connection between academic curriculum and future careers.
Students will attend Explore 2022 during the school day. Ahead of time, each student has worked in Naviance — a digital college and career planning system — to learn which career clusters align with their current interests and aptitudes. Using information gathered from Naviance and guided by counselors, students have selected two career pathways to learn more about on Oct. 6. Local businesses, industries, governmental organizations, and nonprofits will have exhibits at Explore and representatives who will engage in discussions with students.
The 8th graders will also be able to meet with high school students and faculty from U-46’s five high school Magnet Academies; the application window for those academies opens on Oct. 5. Additionally, information on the District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs will be available at Explore.
Middle school counselors have created pre-lessons and post-lessons so the 8th grade students better understand how their career exploration, interests, and insights can be applied to their coursework at U-46 as well as planning for their future.
Parents and guardians of middle school students are invited to attend a “Parent’s Night” for Explore 2022 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, also at the NOW Arena. In addition to helping parents and guardians engage in discussions about Explore with their children, it will also give families a better understanding of the opportunities available to high schoolers in U-46.
The Alignment Collaborative for Education, a non-profit local organization that brings together community resources and initiatives to support District priorities, is once again partnering with U-46 to organize the event.
