What school will you be attending in the Fall?
Elgin Community College
What Major will you study?
Computer Science
What is the most important thing you learned in high school?
The most important thing I learned in high school was that one can accomplish anything with hard work, and that one should appreciate being with their closest friends.
What is your favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory has to be when I played my senior recital in front of the LHS VPAA. I was able to perform in front of my friends and teachers in such a way that was beyond my freshman self's expectation. I'll treasure that day forever.
What is your best advice to future first-generation students?
For the future first-generation students, work for what you value; not what others want you to work for! You shouldn't rely on others to make decisions for you, because you have the ability to make it happen.
What is a challenge that you have overcome as a first-generation college student?
I had many people tell me that I wouldn't put in the work to go to college after my high school graduation. It made me feel like my destiny was chosen for me. That some people believed I wouldn't be able to accomplish my goal. So, I had to overcome what others said, and I started to work for myself. To go to college and study what I desired to learn.
What does it mean to you to receive the Superintendent’s Scholarship?
It means so much to me that I was chosen as one of the recipients for this scholarship. This scholarship allows me to be more confident financially as I start to worry about college expenses for the fall. I am grateful to all of those that helped u-46 with the funding for this scholarship, and I am thankful for this opportunity.
