Christine Malin - Health Science Teacher, South Elgin High School
Christine had been a hospital R.N. for 25 years when a friend convinced her to take a job as a school nurse with U-46. After eight years and five different schools, running what she said often was akin to a small clinic for students with limited healthcare access, Christine moved into a teaching role with encouragement from former Assistant Superintendent Melanie Meidel. Now after 11 years teaching health science at South Elgin High School, Christine is retiring from U-46. “I have enjoyed teaching very much,” Christine said. “And I found out that I love teenagers. Who knew?” During her teaching years, Christine was active with HOSA, helping students interested in healthcare careers. “It’s been a wonderful experience,” she said.
