What are your post-high school plans?
I will be attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I will be majoring in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics.
What is the most important thing you learned in high school?
My biggest takeaway over the past four years is that, while academics are definitely important, not every single thing needs to be stressed over. It's definitely easier said than done, but in the long run, having a healthy balance of self-care and school is far more beneficial towards your success than solely worrying about your responsibilities and neglecting your own well-being.
What is your favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory was being able to visit the Haitian consulate for my Internatonal Relations class with Mr. Devine my senior year. It was truly intriguing to be able to learn so much about the political climate of Haiti, and being able to do so with my friends!
What was your favorite class or learning experience?
APUSH with Mr. Devine my sophomore year and Sociology with Mr. Guiney my senior year.
Share your best advice for incoming freshmen:
Not everyone is the same, so do not compare yourself to other people’s successes in order to feel validated. Focus on what makes you happy and what makes you feel gratified.
What or who do you acknowledge for your academic success, and ranking in the top 2 percent of your senior class?
I would like to acknowledge my parents and friends for encouraging me to strive towards my goals, and for being an amazing support system throughout the past four years.
What life lessons or observations have you gained about yourself, and the world, during the 2020-21 school year?
A life lesson I have learned, especially over the course of this year, is that you (and everyone around you) is constantly changing — always allow yourself to grow and be able to accept change.
