What are your post-high school plans?
I will be attending either University of Notre Dame or University of Illinois at Chicago - GPPA Medical Program where I will be majoring in Biology on the pre-medicine track.
What is the most important thing you learned in high school?
High school is stressful, however, it is up to you on what you make of it. Grades and school in general are extremely important, but don't lose yourself in that process. Take care of your relationships and mental health, take care of yourself. Take the experience of being in high school to your advantage, take control of what you want to do to succeed in the future.
What is your favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory would have to be the time where I, alongside my classmates, were able to cut up a sheep heart in Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Sophomore Year of High School. The concept of studying the heart and being able to have a hands-on lab was an incredible experience.
What was your favorite class or learning experience?
My 2 favorite classes, by far, were AP Biology and Foundations of Healthcare Science. Both of these classes helped establish my love for science as well as the medical field. The classmates, as well as the incredible teachers, helped influence my love for learning.
Share your best advice for incoming freshmen:
High school goes by incredibly fast. It is okay to not be sure of what you want to do in the future. Elgin has plenty of resources and programs that allow you to grow not only as a student but as a person. Once you figure out what you want, go for it. Don't let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do with your plans for the future.
What or who do you acknowledge for your academic success, and ranking in the top 2 percent of your senior class?
While there are plenty of people who have helped me on my journey, my mom has definitely made the largest impact. Her hard work and dedication drove me to become the best possible version of myself.
What life lessons or observations have you gained about yourself, and the world, during the 2021-22 school year?
Life is always changing, whether it's a change you have purposely made or a change that is inevitable, it is up to you on how you see this change. Change doesn't have to be bad, make the most of it. It's your life, your lessons.
