October Spirit Week

A purple and white flyer outlines the daily themes for an October Spirit Week from Monday, 10/26 to Friday, 10/30.

Due to the students’ positive behavior this school year, students are welcome to wear costumes to school for spirit week, as long as they meet the following requirements:

  • All students' faces must be visible at all times (no masks, face paint, glasses, or hats).

  • No toy props or look-alike weapons are allowed.

  • Costumes must not depict blood or gore.

  • Costumes must be school-appropriate and adhere to the district's dress guidelines.

  • No food or drink is permitted in the classroom (this is an everyday rule).

If any costume violates this criteria, students will be asked to change into regular school apparel.

Staying Safe Online: October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month at U-46!

Technology opens incredible doors for learning, creativity, and connection.  This is especially true across our Student Chromebook program in U-46. However, staying safe online requires smart habits both in the classroom and at home.

During Cybersecurity Awareness Month, we encourage families to talk about digital safety together. Here are four simple rules to keep your family's personal information safe online:

4 Simple Rules for Digital Safety at Home

  • Rule 1: Build Strong Passwords & Keep Them Secret

  • Teach your child that passwords are like house keys, never share them with friends, and avoid easy guesses like birthdays or pet names.

  • Rule 2: Pause Before You Click

  • Scammers use fake emails, text messages, and game pop-ups promising free items or prizes. If a link or message feels urgent or suspicious, don't click on it.

  • Rule 3: Keep Devices Updated

  • Restart Chromebooks and family devices regularly so software updates can install the latest security patches automatically.

  • Rule 4: Protect Personal Information

  • Remind children never to post full names, home addresses, phone numbers, or school locations on public games or social platforms.

FREE NAMI FAMILY-TO-FAMILY CLASSES

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Kane County North affiliate is offering a free, eight-session course for people who love someone with mental health conditions.

Participants will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Saturday between Oct. 3 and Nov. 21 at New Life Community Church, 1580 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The classes will offer information about anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other conditions, according to a news release.

Topics covered will include communication, medication, treatment and recovery. The evidence-based program is designed to increase understanding and advocacy skills while helping caregivers maintain their own well-being, the release says.
