    Here are all the ways our volunteers and families make Huff a place where all students are successful and feel a sense of belonging:

    Classroom Support

    1. Reading Buddy – Listen to kids read and help with literacy skills.

    2. Math Mentor – Assist with math games, flashcards, or small group activities.

    3. Art Assistant – Help set up, supervise, and clean up art projects.

    4. Science Lab Helper – Assist with experiments and hands-on activities.

    5. Storyteller – Read books aloud to the class or lead a storytime session.

    6. Homework Helper – Support students who need extra practice after school.

    School-Wide Assistance

    1. Library Helper – Organize books, read to kids, or assist with book fairs.

    2. Recess Monitor – Help supervise and encourage safe play.

    3. Lunchroom Assistant – Help younger kids open lunch items and clean up.

    4. Office Support – Help with copying, laminating, or organizing materials.

    5. Bulletin Board Designer – Create or update hallway or classroom displays.

    6. Gardening Club – Help maintain a school garden or outdoor space.

    Events & Special Projects

    1. Field Trip Chaperone – Supervise kids on class trips.

    2. Career Day Speaker – Share about your profession in an engaging way.

    3. Holiday or Cultural Celebration Organizer – Plan activities for holidays or multicultural events.

    4. STEM Night or Literacy Night Helper – Assist with hands-on stations.

    5. Talent Show or Play Assistant – Help with costumes, set-up, or rehearsals.

    6. Photography Volunteer – Take pictures for the yearbook and school events.

    At-Home Volunteer Opportunities

    1. Classroom Prep Helper – Cut out materials, staple booklets, or prep crafts at home.

    2. Virtual Reading Partner – Read with students via video chat.

    3. Newsletter Contributor – Help draft classroom or school newsletters.

    4. Fundraising Support – Assist in organizing donation drives or grant writing.

    Health & Wellness

    1. Walking Club Leader – Organize a before- or after-school walking group.

    2. Healthy Snack Helper – Assist with nutrition programs or classroom snacks.

    3. Mindfulness or Yoga Volunteer – Lead simple relaxation exercises.

     

    Clerical & Administrative Support

    1. Copying & Laminating – Make copies of worksheets, newsletters, or laminating classroom materials.

    2. Cutting & Assembling – Cut out shapes, flashcards, or assemble booklets for students.

    3. Filing & Organizing – Help organize student paperwork, lesson materials, or office documents.

    4. Bulletin Board Prep – Cut and arrange decorations or student work for displays.

    5. Sorting & Stapling – Organize worksheets, staple packets, or prepare take-home folders.

    6. Data Entry – Assist with inputting information into spreadsheets or school systems (if allowed).

    7. Classroom Inventory – Take stock of supplies and help organize materials.

    8. Mailing & Labeling – Label folders, address envelopes, or prepare newsletters for distribution.

    9. Event Preparation – Create name tags, sort sign-in sheets, or prepare materials for school events.

    10. Library Assistance – Sort and shelve books, label new arrivals, or help with book fairs.

  • Community Engagement

    Aspiration: We will engage in meaningful and effective leaderships with all families and the greater community.

    West Ridge Community Church

    Church volunteers support, mentor and guide students by offering social/emotional one-on-one mentoring through the Kids Hope program. They also donate winter apparel and holiday food boxes to our students and their families. 

    Streamwood Behavioral Health

    Streamwood Behavioral offers social/emotional support to students and families going through traumatic situations.  

    Hanover Township

    The township offers students a safe and nurturing environment to enhance academic and social skills through weekly open gym and other community activities.  

    Elgin Police Department

    Elgin police officers have built relationships with parents and students, maintaining community accountability and helping mold our students so they become contributing members of society.
