Dear Streamwood High School Community,
As I noted in last week’s parent newsletter, we are moving forward with a focus group session to gather more input on our plans to launch an updated Magnet Academy. The proposal is for an academy focused on leadership and entrepreneurship that would welcome freshmen in the 2022-23 school year. These plans are still preliminary; curriculum would still need to be approved by our Instructional Council and brought to our Board of Education. Before we move forward with writing the curriculum and bringing forward a final plan, we wanted to get Districtwide feedback, especially from those families with students who might want to apply to the program. While the proposed change to our academy will not impact current students, all are welcome to join for the first focus group at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28. We’ll be sharing news of this session later tonight with families Districtwide and inviting those who have younger students (7th grade and younger) as well as current high school students to share their insight and experiences with us at the session. Again, this proposed change is not immediate or final. This is part of work that started in 2018 as we looked to update our academies. You may recall that families were surveyed in the spring of 2019 as we launched this work, resulting in our current direction and proposed theme. We are now asking for additional feedback. We ask that all those interested in attending this 60-minute focus group on the 28th, please sign up via this Google form. A confirmation email with the Zoom link will be sent to all those who register.
Thank you for your time, interest and dedication to the future of Streamwood High School and all our District academies.
Dr. Jennifer Van Deusen
Streamwood High School Principal
