U-46 to Host Gifted Program Screening; Sessions Designed for Students not Enrolled in U-46 Schools
May 19, 2022
School District U-46 is hosting two screening sessions this month for consideration for admission to its elementary gifted programming. The sessions are for children entering 4th, 5th, or 6th grade next school year and who reside within the District boundaries but do not attend a U-46 school.
Every fall, U-46 conducts universal screening for gifted programming, during the school day, of U-46 students in 3rd and 6th grade. The District’s IGNITE and Dual Language IGNITE programs are for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students, as well as middle school students, who demonstrate achievement or specific academic aptitude in the areas of mathematics and English language arts and perform beyond the norm for their age group.
The screening process for students who are not currently in a U-46 school will be held on Tuesday, May 24, and Thursday, May 26, at the Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin.
Pre-registration is required. Families interested in learning more about gifted opportunities in U-46 should visit u-46.org/gifted. On the “Request for Gifted Screening” page, parents or guardians can fill out the pre-registration application (which requires a proof of residency within U-46 boundaries) and then fill out the request for gifted screening.
Questions can be directed to Gifted Coordinator April Wells at aprilwells@u-46.org or 874-888-5000 ext. 5356 or by using the customer service tool Let’s Talk at u-46.org/letstalk and choosing the “Gifted Programs” tab.
