Ms. Marcella Sheler
Ms. Marcella Sheler is serving in her first year as Principal of Huff Elementary School, starting with the 2024-25 school year. She brings a wealth of experience to her new role with a career spanning over two decades in education. Ms. Sheler demonstrates a strong commitment to innovative educational practices and equitable student outcomes.
In her most recent position as the Assistant Principal of Innovation at South Elgin High School, a role she’s held since July 2021, Ms. Sheler has been responsible for directing the Beacon Magnet Academy of Digital Media Arts, managing teacher evaluations, and leading professional development initiatives. She has also overseen the departmental budget, coordinated testing programs, and improved family communication for instructional programs. Ms. Sheler’s commitment to continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making has led to successful professional learning communities (PLCs), facilitating tough conversations, and celebrating the impact of collective efforts.
Before joining U-46, she held various roles at St. Charles East and St. Charles North high schools in St. Charles Community Unit School District 303. From 2015 to 2021, Ms. Sheler served as an Instructional Support Coach where she worked closely with administration and district leadership to provide professional learning opportunities to staff, designed and facilitated new educator academies, and developed school-wide professional development courses. Her work included creating an “Instructional Playbook” for use in professional learning communities, advising on social-emotional learning programs, and demonstrating a comprehensive approach to school improvement. She also designed districtwide courses on Authentic Assessment and Blended Learning, fostering a shift towards 21st-century skills and personalized instruction.
Ms. Sheler started her career in education in 1998, teaching social studies and English across various grades. She introduced innovative instructional strategies that led to significant improvements in student performance. Her students’ ISAT writing test scores surpassed the state average, and SOL social sciences scores increased from 48 percent to 90 percent passing.
Ms. Sheler’s passion for educational equity is evident in her work with teachers to adopt student-centered practices. She has been instrumental in helping educators shift their practices to become more equitable, opening doors to opportunity for all students. Her dedication to building relational capacity with students has empowered them to believe in every opportunity, engaging them in meaningful ways.
Ms. Sheler holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Wheaton College, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Memphis, and a second master’s degree in educational leadership from Aurora University.
