Chess Club - Our after school chess program is run by Chess Scholars. If you would like learn chess or more about chess, this is the program for you. Girls On The Run-This is a 2 day/week program dedicated to creating a world where every girl activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams, learn that they CAN, no limits, no constraints. Battle of the Books- A program whose purpose is the encouragement of quality reading. It is offered jointly with area libraries. Team members read books from a list of books chosen by librarians. Scores are kept and winners are recognized, however, much emphasis is placed on the fun of participation and satisfaction of reading. Meetings take place once a week at lunch/recess time and battles are once a month from October through February. www.gailborden.info
Let's Build it-This class takes a hands-on approach to engineering, allowing students to directly engage with basic engineering concepts through a variety of fun and educational activities. Students will improve their problem solving, math, and physics skills – all while engaging in exciting building projects. Each trimester-long unit will focus on a specific area of engineering, like flight, bridge building, and tower construction. No previous experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and build. Each student will receive an award on the last day of the session, and have the opportunity to earn Energy Belts to demonstrate their learned skills! Let'sBuildItFlyer
Let's Code it- Your child will have a blast in this exciting new STEAM program. Our innovative approach to coding is sure to spark your child’s interest in computer science. The fun filled curriculum stresses critical thinking, creativity, confidence, teamwork, and problem solving skills to prepare them for the 21st century and beyond. Class topics include video game design, loops, control structure, conditional expressions, control statements, object oriented design concepts, data structures and variables, and mathematical expressions. Each student will receive an award on the last day of the session and will have the opportunity to earn belts to demonstrate their learned skills! Let'sCodeItFlyer
Running Club-There are two running clubs, one in the fall for intermediate students and one in late fall for kindergarten students. Students learn how to run safely and build stamina. PTO sponsored.
Whifflot-Whiffleball-A program that shows students how to play whiffleball and emphasizes team work.
