Co-principal to join Washington Elementary School
starting with 2023-24 school year

Dear Washington Elementary School Parents/Guardians,

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Ryan Corcoran will join Washington Elementary School as the Co-Principal starting next school year, 2023-24.

As you may be aware, Ms. Lori Brandes will retire at the conclusion of the next school year. She will continue in her role as the school’s principal for the 2023-24 school year. By having Mr. Corcoran join in this role at Washington during the 2023-2024 school year, he will be able to provide stability and continuity as Ms. Brandes retires with the plan of his transition in the school’s principal role effective with the 2024-25 school year.

A little background on Mr. Ryan Corcoran - he is a graduate of Elgin High School and has been an educator in U-46 since 2017. He has served as a Resident Administrator at Horizon and Huff elementary schools over the last two years.

During this time, he supported the work of U-46 Rising in the buildings and cultivated a culture of respect, collaboration, and excellence, fostering strong relationships with students, teachers, and families.

Prior to serving as Resident Administrator, Mr. Corcoran was an 8th grade language arts teacher and instructional coach at Larsen Middle School, providing one-to-one support and coaching to students and staff. He led SIP initiatives through Professional Learning Communities and developed inclusive curriculum and assessments. He started his career in education as an 8th grade language arts teacher in DeKalb School District 428. In all his roles, Mr. Corcoran has excelled at integrating technology to support diverse student needs for learning.

Mr. Corcoran earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Trinity International University and is completing his Master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Illinois University.

Estimados padres/tutores legales de la Escuela Elemental Washington,

Nos complace anunciar que el Sr. Ryan Corcoran se unirá a la Escuela Elemental Washington como Co-Director a partir del próximo año escolar, 2023-24.

Como ustedes saben, la Sra. Lori Brandes se jubila al final del próximo año escolar. Ella continuará en su puesto como directora de la escuela para el año escolar 2023-24. Al incorporarse el Sr. Corcoran a este puesto en la Escuela Washington durante el año escolar 2023-2024, podrá brindar estabilidad y continuidad cuando la Sra. Brandes se jubile con el plan de que su transición al puesto de director de la escuela sea efectiva a partir del año escolar 2024-25.

Algunos datos sobre el Sr. Ryan Corcoran - se graduó de la Escuela Secundaria Elgin y ha sido maestro del Distrito U-46 desde el año 2017. Ha trabajado como administrador residente en las escuelas elementales Horizon y Huff durante los dos últimos años.

Antes de trabajar como administrador residente, el Sr. Corcoran fue maestro de artes de lenguaje de 8º grado y entrenador de instrucción en la Escuela Intermedia Larsen, ofreciendo apoyo personalizado y entrenamiento a los estudiantes y al personal. Dirigió iniciativas del Plan de Mejora de la Escuela (SIP, por sus siglas en inglés) a través de Comunidades Profesionales de Aprendizaje y desarrolló planes de estudios y evaluaciones de inclusión. Comenzó su carrera como maestro de artes de lenguaje de 8º grado en el Distrito Escolar 428 de DeKalb. En todos sus puestos, el Sr. Corcoran ha demostrado su excelencia en la integración de la tecnología para apoyar las diversas necesidades de aprendizaje de los estudiantes.

El Sr. Corcoran obtuvo su Bachillerato en Educación Elemental en la Universidad Internacional Trinity y está terminando su Maestría en Liderazgo Educativo en la Universidad Northern Illinois.
