Earlier this year, our Health Services team started offering the optional, free weekly  SHIELD Illinois COVID-19 saliva-based test to all U-46 students and employees regardless of vaccination status. This optional testing will continue through June 29 each Wednesday from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. at Larkin High School located at 1475 Larkin Ave. in Elgin. 

Students and staff members currently enrolled in the SHIELD COVID-19 testing program can continue participating without having to enroll again. Students and staff members who are not currently enrolled in the SHIELD testing program can still register online here. Please note that it can take up to 5 business days for registration to become active. 

Again, this is available to all U-46 staff members and students whether they are part of a summer school program or not. However, students under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

For U-46 employees who comply with Gov. Pritzker’s Executive Order by consenting to weekly COVID-19 testing, note that the executive order has been extended to be effective through June 25, 2022.

No additional testing locations will be available in the District over the summer. Please visit our SHIELD Illinois website page to learn more about the testing process. Additionally, United Healthcare and other insurance plans offer allowances under some health care plans for free at-home COVID-19 test kits. Refer to your insurance care provider for details. You may also visit COVID.gov/tests to order free at-home test kits. We hope you will consider taking advantage of these free, convenient options.
